Yes, people. Hurricane "Gene" visited us on Tuesday night. It wasn't a biggy but Gene was certainly a hurricane.
So what was I wrong about? Well, I've been walking around saying Fiji won't see another hurricane for a long time. The last big one I remember was in 1995. Since then, we've had couple of them affecting the northern part of the country, but nothing as big as those we experienced when growing up in the 80s and 90s. Hurricane Gene wasn't a big one, rated only as a Category 1. It was however big enough to knock off electricity lines, which had us in the dark for over 24 hours. No electricity meant no water as well. Everything is back to normal now, thankfully.
We enjoyed this hurricane on Tuesday night with a few drinks. Of course we had to empty the fridge, otherwise the beers would've gone bad.
